Samsung: Windows 8 is no better than Vista

Jun Dong-soo, president of Samsung’s memory chip division:

“The global PC industry is steadily shrinking despite the launch of Windows 8,” Jun said. “I think the Windows 8 system is no better than the previous Windows Vista platform.”

And, as if that wasn’t enough:

“[Microsoft's] rollout of its Windows Surface tablet is seeing lackluster demand,” he said. “Meanwhile, previous vigorous pitches by Intel and MS for thinner ultra-books simply failed and I believe that’s mostly because of the less-competitive Windows platform.”

But the Surface makes you dance.

There are SOME nice improvements of Windows 8 over Windows 7 but they are all under the hood. The UI is just one major cluster fuck. While I understand that MS had to go down the path of “Touch UI” It just doesn’t make sense on the desktop. Even on the laptop for most. I support over 15 users who we migrated to Windows 8 and with training. After several weeks, there was a HUGE backlash with all but 1 demanding they get back Windows 7. They’re complaint was what I call “UI Fatigue” which results from going back and forth between the Windows 8/Metro UI and the desktop mode. Personally, if speed was not an issue, I find Vista more usable.

Leo, why were they put on Win 8? My prediction was that businesses would stick with Win 7 and enterprise who need to buy new computers would insist on Win 7 or demand a version of 8 that boots into Desktop and that MS put the Start button back.

I have a song Microsoft can use in their next commercial, since the Surface makes you want to DANCE MOTHERFUCKER DANCE!

I agree. I’ve never really been a fan of MS or Windows, but I thought that they finally got things mostly right with Windows 7. Then they unleashed the steaming pile that is the UI in Windows 8. I feel sorry for the developers and engineers that have to deal with the poor leadership that is on display at MS. Time for Ballmer to go.

I’m so happy Samsung is here to tell us how awful Windows is. Perhaps they have an alternative OS planned to run their next lineup of personal computers?
