Get drunk faster with diet alcoholic mixed drinks

Looking to cut back on the calories in your cocktail by mixing, say, diet soda and rum? Well, get ready for the buzz.

According to the results of a new study, this combination will leave you drunker than if you’d mixed the liquor with a sugary, caloric mixer.

That’s assuming you’re some candy-ass lightweight that needs a mixer to begin with. I take my bourbon neat.

  • Sometimes I drink bourbon neat, but usually I make Manhattans or Old Fashioneds. Occasionally a Whiskey Sour (fresh-squeezed lemon juice, of course). These days instead of a straight Whiskey Sour we have a version that my wife invented then we later found was already a drink called the Bourbon Renewal:

    2 oz. bourbon 1 oz. lemon juice 1/2 oz. creme de cassis 1/2 oz. simple syrup 1 dash Angostura bitters

    They’re awesome.

  • I know this from experience. But I cut out diet soda a long time ago so now I mix with water. Just to take the edge off.
