A long road ahead for RIM

Good article by Hayley Tsukayama after RIM’s stock went on a bit of a roller coaster ride yesterday.

The bit that struck me was that service fees made up 36% of the company’s revenue in the third quarter, or nearly $9.8 million. Multiply that out and it indicates that RIM’s revenues for the third quarter were less than $30 million.

By way of comparison, in the same quarter Apple had nearly $36 billion in revenues. Or, to put it in starker terms, Apple generates more revenue in two hours than RIM does in an entire quarter.

Why are we still talking about RIM?

I think she’s mistaken. They had revenue of 2.7 billion, “36% of the company’s revenue” does not make sense.

Yeah, I don’t know how to possibly reconcile that paragraph then. Maybe it was $980 million?

          Yes! Now That makes sense!
