Mac game gifts for the holidays

My latest feature at Macworld has been posted, entitled Give a Mac game this holiday season. I round up a few eclectic Mac game offerings to give gamers on your holiday list.

There’s stuff for kids, strategy game fans, old school gamers and more on the list, and what’s more, you don’t need to wait for any of them to be delivered: They’re all available for online purchase and download.

  • Good suggestions all around, though I’m not a fan of using Master of Orion 3 as a point of comparison. Its forebears in the franchise helped establish the genre, were better known, and are more highly acclaimed. Also, there’s a minor typo, since it’s “Master of Orion”, not “Masters of Orion”.

Sorry about the error. As far as Master of Orion 3 was concerned, it seemed like the most obvious point of comparison since it was the most recent in the series that spawned the “4X” moniker, and at a mere 9 years old, the most likely for the majority of my readers to be able to reference.

      • Oh, I understood why you did it. I would have done the same had I been in your shoes. I was simply whining because any mention of MOO3 makes me cringe (it was easily the biggest gaming disappointment in my life) and I love justifying any excuses that allow people to to avoid mentioning it. 😉

Have you tried Endless Space, btw?

          • I’m afraid I haven’t, but it’s definitely on my radar after your recommendation. That said, I’ve really reined in on my new game purchases, since I’m already backlogged by about 200 games spanning a number of video game generations that I own but haven’t beaten yet (but which I intend to!). Of course, Steam Christmas sales are hard to resist…

  • Any pinball fans here? Check out The Pinball Arcade from Farsight Studios, and Rob-O-Bot from Color Monkey – Two great Pinball games, one which recreates original pinball designs from the past, and the other a beautifully crafted original table.
