New Jimi Hendrix album

On March 5th, a collection of 12 previously unreleased recordings by Jimi Hendrix will see the light. People, Hell and Angels follows Hendrix in 1968 and 1969 as he works on material apart from the Jimi Hendrix Experience and suggests new, experimental directions.

I’ll definitely be buying this album.

I think the thing is with things like this is that Jimi wasn’t a one take guy. He was the kind of dude who took 50 recordings of one part of a song and then spent a week in the studio getting it sounding exactly as he wanted and imagined. He was as meticulous as they come and a perfectionist.

Throwing out random likely unfinished studio recordings is kind of cool and interesting.. but it’s weak of them to release it as yet another posthumous Jimi Hendrix album as opposed to what it was – snapshots of where he may have been heading. Are You Experienced, Axis Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland are the albums that he finished. And leaving behind three classic records is a good thing.
