Google, Dish may launch wireless service

Dish has been in talks with several companies, including Google. While everything is in the early stages, it would be very interesting if Google did move ahead with this plan given its relationship with existing carriers.

Here is a Google Cache link of the WSJ article.

Sounds interesting. We need someone to go up against AT&T & Verizon.

Bring it on! I’m sure they’d do something to change the game to force the others’ hand.

Sounds like the Google Fiber experiment was a success.

But would a Google wireless service support iPhones?

I’d guess so. Google has proven they want people using their services regardless of OS (gApps on iOS, etc) so I could see them letting any phone on their network.

Question is: would Apple make an iPhone supporting the network? (in the event it isn’t naturally supported through chips already in the device)

Would a Google wireless service snoop everything I do? Probably.

I keep wondering why Apple has not made a bid to acquire Dish yet. It would give them instant presence on the television. They could remake the Dish satellite boxes into Sat-Apple-TV and they would instant have a presence in just about any city without having to worry about cable monopolies and underground infrastructure.
