The Original Rudeboys refuse to open for Chris Brown

Speaking to TV channel RTE, Sean Walsh of The Original Rudeboys said: “Even though it’s a huge opportunity to play in the O2 with a major hip-hop star and a substantial fee was offered, we are completely against Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna… In addition, with our latest single ‘Blue Eyes’ being about domestic violence, it goes against everything we are about as a band and supporting Chris Brown would send out the wrong message to our fans.”

Much respect to The Original Rudeboys. I met these guys in Dublin, Ireland last year and even got to play a song on stage with them. Great bunch of guys that deserve your support.

Props to them for having the courage to stay true to their principles, the promise of exposure and money seems to do strange things to some people. I’m still pretty shocked that Rihanna of all people is giving Chris Brown the pass, really Rihanna, REALLY?! Girl he beat you.

I really respect them for standing up as well, it’s too bad other organizations (like the Grammy’s) weren’t as scrupulous. I can understand why Rihanna didn’t push the issue further, even if I wish she had. Abuse of any form (especially a combination of emotional and physical from a loved one) can be really damaging and distressing to a person. Combine that with the attention they received over the issue due to being famous (including, sadly, some Chris Brown fans who publicly blamed Rihanna) and I can understand why a person in her position would want it put behind her as quickly as possible. Shame on his fans for sticking with him; his career should be over.

  • Good for them! I would never hit a women and don’t think no man should. But… if i’m driving in a car going down a highway and one is hitting me trying to wreck hmmm. just 2 words Vanilla Sky, watch it.
