Microsoft threatens to make more hardware

Steve Ballmer talking to BBC News:

“Is it fair to say we’re going to do more hardware? Obviously we are… Where we see important opportunities to set a new standard, yeah we’ll dive in.”

Great, just what we need.

Actually (and you know it hurts me to say this) Microsoft hardware is generally pretty darn good. It’s their software that’s like pus seeping from an open sore.

    More opportunities for mediocrity. Yay!

Good to hear. I could use a new three-button USB mouse.

That’s what I think when I hear the phrase “new standard”.

Better hardware than another version of Windows!

At this point, I don’t think anyone at Microsoft even believes this bunk anymore, but he’s gotta tell the board and shareholders something. . . ;)

Ineptitude is the only standard Microsoft can set.

In general, I think MS makes superb keyboards and input devices. The XBox is solid as well. And hardware-wise, the Zune was pretty darn good.

As Joel stated, it’s their software that kills them almost every time.
