Microsoft threatens to make more hardware

Steve Ballmer talking to BBC News:

“Is it fair to say we’re going to do more hardware? Obviously we are… Where we see important opportunities to set a new standard, yeah we’ll dive in.”

Great, just what we need.

  • Actually (and you know it hurts me to say this) Microsoft hardware is generally pretty darn good. It’s their software that’s like pus seeping from an open sore.

  • More opportunities for mediocrity. Yay!

    Red ring of death…

  • Good to hear. I could use a new three-button USB mouse.

  • Surprised nobody has linked this yet:

That’s what I think when I hear the phrase “new standard”.

  • Mikeonbass

Better hardware than another version of Windows!

  • Roger

At this point, I don’t think anyone at Microsoft even believes this bunk anymore, but he’s gotta tell the board and shareholders something. . . 😉

  • IcyFog

Ineptitude is the only standard Microsoft can set.

  • In general, I think MS makes superb keyboards and input devices. The XBox is solid as well. And hardware-wise, the Zune was pretty darn good.

As Joel stated, it’s their software that kills them almost every time.
