Schiller on the iPad mini

“The iPad is far and away the most successful product in its category. The most affordable product we’ve made so far was $399 and people were choosing that over those devices,” Schiller said. “And now you can get a device that’s even more affordable at $329 in this great new form, and I think a lot of customers are going to be very excited about that,” Schiller said.

Translation: We are going to sell a metric shit ton of these things.

I think in regards to pricing you have to factor in that in a year’s time (6 months?) Apple will be selling the New iPad mini at $329 and the original iPad mini at $229.

Interesting, probably right. Amazing how non of the the tech-tards can think forward like that.

Exactly. It is always easier to lower a price than to raise it. Just ask Netflix.

yup, I think Apple moving to the non-numbering for the iPad family indicates they may be moving to a more frequent update cycle, as the iPad(4)/A6X seems to show.

6 months?! That sounds like something ‘those other companies’ do. How’s that working? Why introduce something new every 6 months IF the previous (current) product has a 3 week waiting period? The market will become saturated.

    only a metric shit ton??

Further: the iPad mini will be supply constrained for some time. There’s no need to cut prices to increase demand for a product that will be sold out. It would be irresponsible of Apple, as a public company, not to take the extra margin at this point.

It’s days like yesterday when I remember how much I miss Steve Jobs. Schiller can gush all day about the iPad Mini, but Jobs’ sales pitch was always on another level. There will never be another.
