Nokia’s strategy

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop:

“I think you’re going to see a trend where operators, starting in the West, begin to say, ‘We need a third ecosystem to really begin to happen. We really need to double down on it. We need to cause it to happen.’”

The company’s strategy is to wait until carriers are tired of selling millions of iPhones and Android devices and force Nokia products on us. Yeah, that’ll work.

I’m betting that’s not really their corporate strategy, but is actually just a short quote from the leader of a once-great company that’s really struggling to survive against a very powerful and very creative juggernaut.

Sometimes you just sound pointlessly mean spirited, Jim.

      Truth can hurt sometimes.

same guy said they have a good chance at being number 3.

that was last month. at least they’re sticking to their guns

(just ignore the fact that they ARE already third – read as.. “I think we have a chance of staying ahead of Microsoft”)

but yeah, Jim’s a mean bastard. LOVE IT.

As do I. If you want political correction go the fuck somewhere else.

We already know that carriers in the U.S., while happy for all the mobile contracts that the iPhone brings in, would rather not be as dependent upon the iPhone for so many of them.

It’s quite a bind. Getting and keeping customers by having the most popular phone in the world, but not making as much money off of them as you would pushing the Android based knockoffs.

“Doubling” down on a “third” ecosystem just sounds dirty. Like a Republican environmental policy.

    Doh!

For those keeping score at home, out of a possible 100, little Stevie’s quote gets scored down 30 points for using the horrific and vapid term “doubling down.”

I’d also like to subtract an additional 20 points for a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ fee. This is known as the ‘trojan horse deduction’ in the traditional graeco-roman rules.

Minus 10 more points for him being so lazy and passive. And stupid-looking.

I was reading this earlier today on BGR and couldn’t help but think that it was like Spam saying “We’re going to wait for people to get tired of eating beef and chicken. Then they’ll see there’s a shittier alternative for them and we’ll be raking in the dough then.”

    • http://www.tumblr.com/blog/his-divine-shadow His Shadow

“All this beef and chicken based consumption Why not pigeons? What’s wrong with pigeons? More people will begin to say ‘We need pigeon to really happen’. We are doubling down on pigeon. Also: Insanity. Has insanity really been given it’s due a strategy?”

“I like our strategy. I like it a lot. Or is that ‘we have a lot of strategies’? I get confused. I’m Steven Elop, and I approve of you approving our message. Whatever it is.”

By this logic they should just sit back and wait for the telcos to call them. Wait a minute, that IS their business plan.
