FBI issues warning to Android users

The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center has issued a warning alerting users about malware that targets the Android mobile operating system.

But Android is great… and open… and other stuff that Eric Schmidt says it is.

Seems like the Android business model is just like the Windows business model: Sell then a second-rate hunk o’ cr@p cheap and then to he11 with them.

I love the Mac, and its what I use, but lets not forget that its the Windows business model that facilitated the growth of the Web. A cheap but “good enough” computer is a lot better than no computer at all.

The Windows business model also facilitated the growth of the malware industry.

“But Android is great… and open… and other stuff that Eric Schmidt says it is.”

Yep. Android is great….and open…. and not immune to bad people trying to exploit that openness.

I’m looking forward to reading all the marvellous ways the new iPad Mini fits into your life btw. After OPENly dismissing smaller tablets for a year, I’m pretty sure you’ll experience an epiphany as Apple enters the space.

Why is different to Apple always bad with you?

This is exactly his point. iOS is immune to bad people trying to exploit its closed-ness.

        Wrong.

        • NickFrey

          Which of that is wrong?

          • http://www.johncblandii.com John C. Bland II

You’re stating iOS is immune. That’s not correct. Google it.

          • NickFrey

It’s nearly immune to exploits through the App Store, yes, with sandboxing and the curation process. Jailbreaking and things like SMS exploits, sure, but the closedness of the App Store hasn’t allowed any significant malware through that I recall.

I agree. Nearly. Safari is another story.

It will be funny watching everyone in the Apple space turn a 180 on the whole <10″ tablet market. In all fairness, I wasn’t hot on them either, though that was back when Samsung tried selling the Galaxy Tab for the same price as the iPad. Now that they’re half the price of the iPad, they’re a great buy, and they’re just different enough in usage that they fit in between the iPhone and iPad (or Android equivalent. I’ve got a hodgepodge of devices on both operating systems)

You don’t even watch 1% of the Apple space so you cant really judge them. In order to claim someone does a 180, you will need to prove those who said they didn’t like them are the same people as those who now say they like them.
