Set default address to iCloud.com

A reader sent a note today letting me know that you can now set the default email address in your iCloud account to @mac.com, @me.com or @icloud.com. I don’t know how long it’s been like that, but I hadn’t noticed it before.

Just sign-in to iCloud, open the Mail app and go to Settings > Composing.

    jim…

yes you can use .mac if you had it before MobileMe and iCloud….but if you were NOT a .mac user prior to MobileMe….that was never an option…

so i always prefer .mac ….. shows you are an original mac guy….not a “newb”

Oh yes!! Thank you Apple. The @icloud.com email option was really bugging me. Great simple solution.

My iPad reverent to @icloud after upgrading to iOS6. Problem was it would not allow me to send any email. I finally figured out through trial and error that I had to switch primary to @me (which was my primary and what I prefer to use) before it allowed me to send email again. With it set to @icloud I just kept getting error message about no being able to communicate with server.

It may be worth noting that while the address can be enabled, it is not active yet. And if it is for some, it is not for everyone. They may be rolling this out little by little, but it’s been there for a while.

You can also change these settings on an iPad. Settings > iCloud > Account > Advanced Mail.

Is this device specific, or does changing one change all?
