It’s time for RIM to quit

Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system is gaining on Research In Motion, a new study says, but it still has a long way to go before catching Android and iOS.

It’s one thing to lose ground to iOS and Android, but when Windows Phone OS catches you, you’re done.

I’ve never used a device created by RIM but I spent a few months using WP 7.5 and it was pretty great with a ton of rough edges. If WP steals market share from iOS I wonder if you’ll say the same thing about Apple.

If it were only a matter of this one thing, but clearly it is not. There is no comparison. Your comment falls flat.

I’m not sure what you mean by “If it were only a matter of this one thing.” Clearly Jim is saying it’s just this one thing; i.e. “when Windows Phone OS catches you, you’re done.” Your comment falls flat.

Ahhh, I knew you would not understand what I was alluding to. Jim is saying in this ONE article that in this PARTICULAR case that IF WP catches you, you are done. BUT and now listen closely, if Apple were to make all the same horrible mistakes that RIM has made and if Apple starts to leak money like no tomorrow and lose market share like RIM is and if if if . Do you get it now troll?

I get what you’re saying and I agree. By the way Jim is not saying “in this ONE article that in this PARTICULAR case that IF WP catches you, you are done.” He’s not saying “leak[ing] money like no tomorrow and lose market share like RIM is and if if if.” He’s saying (and I quote) “It’s one thing to lose ground to iOS and Android, but when Windows Phone OS catches you, you’re done.”

Your tone is offensive and I don’t appreciate it. I won’t be replying to this thread any longer (trolls are a waste of time). I disagree with what Jim says. Disagreeing doesn’t make me a troll. Acting like a belligerent Ibex makes you the troll. I said good day sir.

          • Jim H

Baaaaa Baaaaa, really? An Ibex? Ha ha. Good one.

But seriously, if I offended you I do apologise. I am so tired of seeing belligerent people online who would never be this way face to face that I suppose I jumped to the conclusion that you are one of them and became belligerent myself.

It’s not best that I let Jim speak for himself, it’s best that I do what I want, as you are, and interpret what he has written and mix it with my own thoughts. I think that Jim’s intent here is to further illustrate that because of all the errors that RIM has made that they are done if WP overtakes them considering how slow the adoption of WP has been. Your question as to whether iOS would be in trouble if WP started to steal market share isn’t applicable in the same way because Apple has much more going for it than RIM does and as a result they would not be “done”. Those facts can’t just be ignored.

I used a Blackberry for a few years. It was great for what it was, but it was obvious that it was always “half-baked” at best. Even though I had never used a smartphone prior to the Blackberry, I was always thinking “there must be a better way.” RIM simply never asked itself “is there a better way?” That’s the kiss of death for a company that relies on getting users to update every other year or so.

Never thought I’d find myself rooting for Microsoft.
