You can still use Google Maps on iOS 6

A couple of readers have written to point out that you can still use Google Maps on your iPhone running iOS 6. Just go to http://maps.google.com in Safari and add it to your home screen. That will give you directions, transit and many other features.

It’s not perfect, but for those having issues with Maps, it’s something.

    Meh.

What if you go into Settings and restrict the new Maps app — would map URLs then default to opening in Safari?

Tim, how would you go about restricting the Maps app?

Presumably he is referring to parental controls aka restrictions. I doubt map links will go to Safari though. Perhaps when a jailbreak comes along you may be able to restore the Google maps.app from iOS 5.

Or just use MotionX. I was never a huge fan of Google Maps as a GPS, but MotionX rocks.

I’m in the suburbs, and haven’t needed to use Google’s walking or public transit options. Without voice guidance, it wasn’t really safe to use the old Maps app while driving, so I’ve been using MotionX’s “GPS Drive” also. It’s only $.99 for the app, and currently $9.99/yr for voice guidance- I second the recommendation above.

Google maps from the website doesn’t work or me. Won’t route.
