Nokia’s new Lumia might not be enough

Kevin C. Tofel:

Instead, I was left with a key unanswered question from Nokia that directly impacts the company’s future: What did it announce today that will get consumers to switch from an iPhone or Android device? Without a compelling answer to that question, I suspect most new Lumia sales will come from those already using an older Lumia and that won’t generate the growth that Nokia needs to sustain a turnaround.

Smart article by Kevin. To my mind, this is the key point that Nokia may have missed. You have to give consumers a reason to switch and if they didn’t do that, they missed a huge opportunity. With the new iPhone coming soon, it’s hard to imagine that people will go for a Lumia.

There wasn’t a reason to switch, and people can’t switch, because pricing and availability was not even announced.

      Might be better called Glumia.

I still feel the screen and the OS should be a good reason, remains to be seen if its enough of a reason though.

What is even more telling is that Microsoft has not release WP8 SDK as of yet. So they have had two introduction of WP8 yet no real info has been presented. now Lumia are introduced but won’t ship until november.

I have to admit, they are indeed pretty phones. I’m hoping Microsoft is now providing enough incentives to carrier stores to actually push them.

Switch is wrong word here. A lot of people are yet to buy their first smartphone.

And, don’t forget Europe anf maybe developing markets. In Europe iPhone is undercut by cheaper Android phones. Maybe Lumia wants/can be competitor to Android in this market. In developing markets this is even more the case.
