Google’s iOS search app to gain “enhanced voice search”

Ars Technica:

Google’s search app for iOS is about to become more Siri-like. The app, which already allows users to enter search terms via voice, will soon gain the ability to better understand your intent—that is, what you actually mean with all those extraneous words coming out of your mouth. Google announced on Wednesday that the feature will be available “soon” for iPhone and iPad.

Big advantage of this Google “version” is that it will be available on the iPhone 4.

Maybe this will force Apple’s hand to make Siri more wide spread… or maybe it won’t.

It won’t since year after year they get millions of upgraders.

I see no downside to this.

Apple’s creation of Siri, as well as it’s creation of it’s own mapping app, are for the purpose of taking critical functionality out of the hands of a competitor. With even roughly equivalent services, Google no longer has that sword over iOS’s head.

Knowing what we know about Google’s profitability on iOS vs Andriod, it will be no surprise for Google to fight to make the best product possible for iOS users in an attempt to maintain those valuable click-thrus. For the iOS user, we now have two great options competing for our business, and both (presumably) free.

    I say bring it on.

The Apple didn’t put in ip4 because it doesn’t have noise canceling chip nor dual microphone. Google is not going to magically solve the issue. This Google not caring about quality.
