DOJ ignores public

Peter Kafka:

The Department of Justice posted the settlement, invited public comment, and then ignored the public comment.

Why bother asking for public comments if you’re just going to ignore them anyway?

Basically DOJ is saying that google will use the wholesale model and up-sale the nexus phone or may be ads to their customer. put ads in the beginning of each chapter that would kill Amazon. Microsoft will sell Office plus toys and Surface accessaries to each ebook buyer.

Obviously Apple can’t use Agency model which apparently the book publishers signed contracts for hoping to end Amazon bullying. but obviously Amazon is the injured party.

“Basically DOJ is saying that google will use the wholesale model and up-sale the nexus phone or may be ads to their customer. put ads in the beginning of each chapter that would kill Amazon.”

That’s just foolish on so many levels.

if you are going to comment then you better study up.

“The Department also pointed to recent ventures by Google and Microsoft as evidence that the e-book market is thriving and that Amazon’s dominant position has been overstated.”

          Foolishness needs no studying.

The DOJ said nothing about Google upselling a Nexus or putting ads on every page. They do neither of them now so it is purely a foolish statement.

You haven’t been tracking the White House online petition site either. All long winded, condescending NO’s.

I think asking for public comment doesn’t mean you have to agree with it. Good for them for the ask.

I’m not well versed enough to speak to the issue but I have no problem with Amazon leading the industry. I may be biased though because I buy only Kindle ebooks [not 1 iBook and accidently 1 from Google, instantly requested a refund and bought from Amazon; purely for cross-platform use].

“…I have no problem with Amazon leading the industry.”

Would you still think that way if Amazon hiked all their ebook prices up because there was no competition left to force them to do any different? Remember, there is a difference between leading an industry and controlling an industry. The way I see it, with what the DoJ is doing, Amazon will end up full control over the publishers and authors as well as the consumers. A bad situation for all if it comes to that. Remember Microsoft in the late 90s and 2000s?

Its easy to figure out what they were up to. They assumed they would get an overwhelming pile of comments from the public thanking them for their goal of ending the overpricing of ebooks.

Instead they got an overwhelming pile of comments telling them to shut up and leave it alone from the industry that feels they are way overstepping. And a handful of the comments they were trying to get. So they pay attention to those and ignore the rest
