Americans don’t trust TV news

Americans’ confidence in television news is at a new low by one percentage point, with 21% of adults expressing a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in it. This marks a decline from 27% last year and from 46% when Gallup started tracking confidence in television news in 1993.

TV News focuses more on sensationalism rather than actual news. TV Journalists have become puppets of the network owners political views and refuse to ask tough questions and call politicians on their lies.

A thousand times this. And to add to this, in TV and mainstream print news there is no “liberal journalism” there is only “what makes money.” You see the same trends in tech news, only they are more exaggerated and began earlier because tech news is more entertainment anyway. This trend only adds to the importance of all the various sane points of view provided by blogs, like this one.

In Canada we actually have a law that states that organizations are not allowed to broadcast false and misleading information.

    In the US, you don’t.

We also no longer have broadcast media that separate their news divisions from their entertainment groups. It’s sad to see, knowing what tv journalism was once capable of, only a few decades ago.

US had FCC rule called Fairness Doctrine from 1949 to 1987. Conservatives and Libertarians didn’t like it so they got it overturned. the rest is history. in August 2011 the FCC formally removed the language that implemented the Doctrine.
