Ben Brooks puts up a paywall

Of course this model isn’t new either, we typically just call it a “paywall”. But a paywall in its basic form is ineffectual for what I want, because then it becomes a massive hurdle to gain new readers (since all my content would be hidden out of the public eye) — I don’t want that.

This is a bold move by Ben. It will be very interesting to see how it works out for him.

Interesting. The question for me is, is BB that interesting or have such a unique or charismatic insight that I want to pay for his views given that ultimately there are other equally good pundits whose views I can get for free in the immediate? In other words is my world lessened by not listening to Ben Brooks until 7 days after he’s originally posted- by which time, in the world of tech, he’s toast…

Well, I guess you either value Ben’s writing above the other ‘pundits’ or you don’t.

And Ben’s rationale for this is that his writing should stand the test of time. A lot of his articles, even from many months ago, are as engaging for me today as they were when he wrote them.

Ben site isn’t a breaking news site, so the time delay is not as relevant in his case.
