Nexus 7 is not a game changer

Jerry Hildenbrand, Android Central:

The Nexus 7 doesn’t bring a compelling reason to “go Google” when considering a tablet purchase like we were hoping.

My only issue with Jerry’s statement is his overall expectations for the device. If you go back through the podcasts, he didn’t know what he wanted in the expected [what turned out to be the Nexus 7] device.

I don’t have an issue with the review itself, but I am disappointed as to how it was presented on The Loop. The highlighted section from the review could easily have been this: “there’s simply not a better tablet for the money available from anyone, anywhere”. It seems like the comment highlighted was just cherry-picked from an otherwise positive review of the tablet, just to help him argue his point. If Jim wants to make the point that it is not a game changer then, I believe, he should write why he feels that to be the case.

I love The Loop and check it multiple times a day to see what has been written. And I overwhelmingly enjoy what is written. This particle item just rubbed me the wrong way.

Great point. It is very Gruber’esque. :)

As a general rule, if you only read The Loop, you’re getting an insanely skewed view of reality, which is a bit sad.

Agreed, this is a stupid post by the loop. Especially so because the real Android geeks, who the linked site is written by and written for, hate the fact that Google dropped the micro-SD slot. That’s what that whole negative sentiment is about. Jim’s effectively linked to a geek who’s sore that he can’t carry his entire Game of Thrones video collection wherever he goes.

It’s sad that they (the Android guys) put so much value on removable storage. I think they’re missing the bigger picture (especially because it seems to be removable storage that creates the problem of limited internal system/data partitions, which really is a problem for Android).

“I would recommend the Nexus 7 to anyone and feel good about handing out that advice.”
