Lie your ass off

Great comic at TechHog about RIM.

As much as I want to see RIM fail for past technological sins, I’m quite sure that at some point the Canadian government will decide they’re our version of “too big to fail” and spend my tax dollars propping them up.

I don’t understand why anyone wants a company to fail. What did RIM do that was so bad, that you want all those people to lose their jobs?

I want RIM to succeed. It keeps people employed, and it keeps the market interesting.

I developed software for the Blackberry, and had to deal with them.

Nortel didn’t get bailouts, so I’m not sure why RIM will. I wasn’t aware of any government bailouts in the past. Unless I’m mistaken, RIM receives the same tax breaks as any other high tech corporation in Canada.

I know some people that have gone to work for RIM. They are smart and bright people. The problem is management. They can’t do due diligence on creating a good product without the direction of management.

That said, I don’t think anything is going to change. As Thor said, “there’s nothing wrong with RIM.” Well, there is a lot wrong with RIM, but with that message coming from the top, it doesn’t look like it’s going to get fixed, and you’ll get your wish.

Well, to be clear, I’m starting with the assumption that they’re not going to fix themselves. I’d love to see them do so, and then survive. I just will believe it when i see it. :)

Nobody sane here wants to see all those good people put out of work. Much of the resentment expressed here is directed towards the management that so arrogantly and foolishly ignored signs of disruption.
