3D printed guitar bodies

Anthony Doesburg:

Diegel is an exponent of 3D printing. His zany guitar bodies are created using computer-aided design (CAD) software, output in one piece on an EOS 3D printer. This is the new world of additive manufacturing.

Part of a guitars tone comes from the woods used in the guitar. I’m not sure how this would sound.

The tone does not come from the wood but from the body material. Wood is the not only material that can sound. For exemple, there are carbon fiber/composite guitars. So those 3D printed guitars will have their own tone. It will just be different.

Now, wether this tone is any good is a different matter ;-)

There is a mahogany or maple insert behind the strings, pickup and bridge, so there is wood there. There’s a video of the creator playing different versions here… http://www.odd.org.nz/atom.html

The article actually mentions they place a wooden block behind the pickups and neck joint, and the choice of wood allows them to vary the tone. Interesting stuff, at any rate.

Cool. Ive been thinking about buying a 3D printer myself to make rare parts for a certain industry, Can’t tell you the industry:)
