Developers not concerned about iPhone, iPad screen sizes

Neil Hughes:

Developers were asked to indicate, on a scale of one to 10, how difficult it might be for them to change their applications for the new screen sizes. On average, developers at WWDC said the difficulty would be just a 3.4 out of 10, suggesting they don’t see it as a major issue.

I’m not a developer, so I don’t know how difficult this would be, but if they’re not worried, neither am I.

It’s not difficult at all – it’s just a task to be done. Possible tasks: - update graphics (splash screens, backgrounds, etc. – UI widgets should already be done for current retina displays) - make decisions of any additional UI that may be afforded by the taller screen (e.g. extra status bars, controls, etc.) - update any code that makes assumptions about screen size to instead get the screen size and lay interface out accordingly

One reason why I’m currently not worried: Because there’s been no announcement of screen size change from Apple.

Unless I slept during the weekend and missed an announcement?

Apple already pushes devs to not make assumption about screen size, so most well coded programs should be fine already – tweaks to splash screens and fitting UI into a slimmer and wider aspect is usually all that’s needed. Games are where it would be a pain. I still don’t buy that apple is doing this anyway…
