The Space Shuttle Enterprise over New York City

The Space shuttle Enterprise, mounted atop a 747, flew over NYC today. The shuttle will eventually be put on permanent display at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Unsurprisingly, a space shuttle on top of an airplane is a really cool thing to see.

    My wife saw it fly by today from her WTC-area office. She remarked on how tiny the jet fighter convoy accompanying the shuttle looked compared to it.

      BTW, that jet fighter is a (I believe) T-38 trainer. while a true jet, not really much of a fighter. :)

    That would have been very cool to see. I was in NYC from last weekend until yesterday but unfortunately due to the weather it was rescheduled for after I left. Oh well…

    Sad to see an era end. I remember watching the landing tests back in ’76 or ’77. Whither goes our space program?
