Mary Jo Foley:
Microsoft’s Sales, Marketing, Services, IT, & Operations Group (SMSG) may be putting in place a policy to prevent employees from using corporate funds to buy Macs and iPads.
Makes sense. If you’re going to make users suffer, why not force employees to suffer too.
When I was a teenager, my parents told me not to go out and drink beer at parties. Guess what I did?
I know a couple of people who work at MS who won’t be happy with this news.
Funny. I’m sure the MS product ban at Apple is voluntary.
It makes sense to ban the use of company money on a competitor’s products. Sucks to be them.
Is this a reaction to hardware partner complaints, IT support, or simply a reaction to the popularity of their greatest rival?
It’d be funny if that injunction include the Mac Business Unit too.
I’ll bet there are plenty of Wintel boxes at Apple. iTunes for Windows doesn’t develop and test itself.
I’m thinking Parallels or Fusion are more prevalent than any physical “Wintel” boxes.
Perhaps. I’d guess it depends upon how rigorously they test. There might be software bugs that only a crappy Dell could spot.
Based on the quality of iTunes for Windows, I’d say not very vigorously.
Or rigorously… 🙂
Even though they develop Mac and iPad apps…
This is especially amusing seeing as the guy hired at MS to design Metro uses exclusively Mac’s…
Well, Its one way to increase your MS PC count for sales and market share purposes.
