Hollywood still hates you

Why doesn’t Hollywood get it? The music industry was handed profits from online downloads, but it seems like the movie industry is fighting the inevitable.

Simple, they want to keep the profitable DVD business going.

Except it is really that profitable. Especially compared to the sales they might get if they actually played ball on decently priced, high quality, world avail in a timely fashion digital.

Yes, keep the dying physical distribution alive at the cost of stunting the future – digital distribution. Brilliant. They should be investing in and growing digital rather than neutering it at every opportunity.

Someone (possibly Apple) should buy one of the major movie/entertainment studios and immediately stop all physical DVD/Blu-ray distribution, go 100% digital and offer their digital content at 1/4 the current price. They’d immediately become the most popular studio for digital downloads and would eventually force the hand of the other studios to lower prices and offer all their content digitally. And by eliminating the costs of physical DVD/Blu-ray distribution I imagine they’d quickly become more profitable as well.

      One can dream.
