RIM’s mismanagement

Matt Alexander:

I have no doubt that QNX is promising, but why on Earth would you push it when it’s not even compatible with your flagship email software? Why would you build Android emulation when you’re looking to develop your own App Store? The whole project screams of mismanagement, and it’s time to stop. Stop trying to peddle subpar products to the unsuspecting Christmas shopper, stop advertising it, and stop defending it.

I only disagree with one thing Matt said in this article — I don’t believe RIM will mount an offensive in the coming months. It seems to me the problems with RIM come from the top and until the co-CEOs are replaced, the company doesn’t stand a chance of making a comeback.

Note that he said they’d mount an offensive. He didn’t say it’d work out for them. You’re likely to see the dangerously-close-to-fired CEOs initiate a “Comeback” that will be akin to the final convulsions of a dying body.

Well, at least the RIM management is as clueless as the HP TouchPad management.

HP is trying to adapt to the new dynamics. Carli attempted to own consumer markets because she saw them as the new growth sector. Mark attempted to embrace Tablets (among other things) because he saw them as the new growth sector. Leo attempted to drop consumer products because he saw them as holding back the company from Big Iron services.Meg is attempting to pick up the pieces of 12 years of the company being pulled in different directions. RIM is still ‘living’ in 2005. They may be trying new things, but they are approaching these new things from the same direction.

A better app solution for an up-an-coming platform is to 1 ) make your native apps easy to write. 2 ) create a simple way to port your apps to other platforms

RIM’s app solution is to either write native apps for only their platform or write native apps for Android and shoe-horm them into QNX. If I was a App Developer, I know what I would do.

WINE actually encourages native Windows development. iOS not having Java or Flash capabilities actually encourages native ObjC development.

Really??? Who the F..CK are you people that claim that the Co-CEO’S don’t work? You’re nobody’s that try to claim that you’re someone, but just a paper pusher. The Co-CEO’s have mad more money then the rest of you morons!

    • Philip Tirelli

Very intelligent and mildly thought-provoking comment, sir.

    • Dan Woods

Ever since the market changed  (read “iPhone”) and RIM has had to change direction, the company hasn’t been heading in one direction. While Microsoft, Google and Nokia (as well as other manufacturers) have made definite changes to adapt to the new market, RIM have been plodding along in different directions. It could be assumed that the lack of definite changes is the ambiguity of having two heads.

Reported op. income qtr end Aug FY10 = 1,081m

Reported op. income qtr end Aug FY11 =   407m Net movement for reporting period  = 674m LOSS

I have made more money than those two have. That’s who I am.

      And learn to type.

      • Michael Schmitt

Oh, really??? Don’t start a sentance with a “And”

        • belton braces

I said type, not grammar. Unless of course you meant to use the word “mad”. Freudian slip perchance?

          • Michael Schmitt

            Of-course… Still, don’t start a sentence with a “And”.

          • belton braces

Wow you managed to spell “sentence” correctly this time. Did you call up to you Mom to help you with it? Incidentally you are wrong: http://www.chambersharrap.co.uk/chambers/features/chref/chref.py/main?query=And&title=21st

            And there we have it.

          • Michael Schmitt

Still shows your poor style. Probably came from you iToy; made by a poor style company… There you have and you earned it!

          • Philip

            You’ve earned it.

It’s being reported that RIM is writing off almost half a billion dollars ($425M) in unsold Playbook hardware charges. If this is true, that’s a lot of money on a failed effort. The Co-CEOs are responsible and need to act intelligently and decisively. If they can’t do that then they need to resign and let someone who can act appropriately before RIM runs out of money and customers. That’s business not speculation.

Another thing about you stupid idiots… I’m going to respond in such a manner that it will make your head spin!

In response to the “I have no doubt that QNX is promising, but why on Earth would you push it when it’s not even compatible with your flagship email software?”

My response: If it isn’t compatible why is everybody trying to push Blackberry to open BBM and Push email to IOS and Android? That’s really pathetic that everybody including the dumb-asses on this forum think they have the answers! They got it to work just ask CrackBerry Kevin.

Secondly,”I have no doubt that QNX is promising, but why on Earth would you push it when it’s not even compatible with your flagship email software? “

My Response: Why would Apple port it’s existing software onto the NeXt Platform if it wasn’t relevant anymore in 1997? It’s not about bringing Androids Apps on it forever, it’s a psychological way of reeling them onto the QNX Platform… Duh!

Now, on to Jim and his poor response about the Co-CEO’s.

My Response: What difference does it make? Once QNX is on phones and with the exception of getting Push Email to work, Apple isn’t going to be relevant anymore. Not only can QNX can do everything the ity bity iToy can do, but more! Let me explain in detail for the idiots that don’t understand. Is IOS Stable and Reliable enough for Cars, Casino Machines, International Space Stations? I really don’t think so…

    Get a life people!
