∞ Woman behind the voice at 200 airports

I wasn’t even sure she was real until now.

Great story. Her voice is what Majel Barrett is to the Enterprises’ ships computer.

      Exactly.

What’s more interesting to me is that she’s actually reading the exact lines. Unlike many systems that have someone speak a collection of phrases so they can cull off various sounds and syllables and recreate words as needed. Such as what Apple’s Siri does.

The New York Times did this story earlier in the year, I think. Excellent voice work.

She is recording paragraph snippets of copy in script form.  She then just has to name the recordings appropriately and upload them.  I assume hey are reviewed and changes are made.  Then those pieces are looped and played as needed by an automated computer announcement system.

Must be nice to work at home, she probably makes some good money doing the work. Certainly has expensive recording gear.

It was a great day when the New York City MTA upgraded the public-address systems in some of its Manhattan stations. Where before there was incomprehensible static and muddy speech, this woman’s voice now rings out and resonates throughout the station.

Welcome to the late 20th century, New York.

This gives me a glimmer of hope for HP.

Agreed. I miss the days when HP and high quality engineering and innovation were all in the same sentence.
