∞ Amazon Kindle Fire screenshots

At the top you’ll notice categories for Newsstand, Books, Music, Video, Docs, Apps, and the Web browser. With the exception of Docs and the Browser, each of those menus also include direct links into Amazon’s digital store for that content.

    Putting content front and centre.
If the Fire isn’t a consumption device, I don’t know what is.

I like this approach, because it helps users get to their stuff quickly, but if I were a developer, I wouldn’t like it, since third party apps appear to be second class citizens.

I guess it depends on what the app purchasing is like, and whether Amazon puts restrictions on what you can do with apps. I thought that the apps are mixed in with the content? That’s what I inferred from the captioning. It appeared like it’s all mixed together.

It looks like apps only recently used apps will be prominently featured on the home screen—which kind of makes sense for fast app switching—but generally “native” media will take the first place.

You’re right about the app purchasing and restrictions. I wonder if something like VLC or AV Player HD will be allowed by Amazon.
It’s pure speculation, but I get the feeling that Amazon will run a tight ship when it comes to content, because contrary to Apple, it’s the way they make most of their money.
