∞ Apple still investigating iOS 5 battery issues

With the release of iOS 5 on Thursday, Apple fixed bugs that caused battery issues with some users, but Apple said the investigation is ongoing.

“The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices,” an Apple spokesperson told The Loop. “We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”

Apple confirmed earlier this month that it had found some issues in iOS 5 that caused batteries to not perform properly. While it affected some users, not all users saw the problem.

Try resetting your iPhone to see if that helps with your battery problem by holding simultaneously holding down the Home button and On/Off buttons.  Hold for several seconds, until the screen goes black and then the Apple appears.  You may also want to make sure you have a good backup and restore it to factory settings using iTunes if resetting does not work.  I have found that by doing one or the other of the above two things, I have remedied weird problems on previous iPhone models.

I have unlocked iPhone 4s. I am with fido and I have name display service included in my iPhone value pack. It was working in my previous unlocked iPhone 4. But with 4s doesn’t work. I contacted fido customer services and they reset everything for me. But still doesn’t work. They are helpless they even told me something wrong with phone. I even replaced the phone. An still am experiencing the same problem. I think apple should find a solution for this,, any answers ?!!

The battery in my iPhone 4S seems to be working fine.  This morning at 8:00 am it was at 100%.  It’s now almost 3:30 pm, I’ve been out of the house for a couple hours running errands, made a couple phone calls and all seems to be working fine.  Right now, after 7 1/2 hours, two phone calls and several emails, I’m at 86%.  My service provider is AT&T, if that matters. I’m using iCloud for 480 Contacts and an iCal full of events. I have an app called Talkatone that seems to gobble battery if I connect the app to the Talkatone server.  I leave it off unless using the app to make a phone call.  This is an app issue and not an iPhone issue.  Even before the update to iOS 5.0.1, the battery did not seem to drain rapidly but I do believe it is even better now than before the update.

Mine is still acting up after the 5.0.1 update. I did a full wipe and restore yesterday and still no joy. It’s still draining much faster than I’d expect for a new device, and faster than my year old iPhone 4 as well so not good.

There is undoubtedly a software problem with regard to how the battery is being addressed in the iPhone 4 and 4S. Those who own the iPhone 4 and/or iPhone 4S have reported battery drain issues since upgrading to iOS 5 and again to iOS 5.0.1. I am sure Apple has engineers working overtime to come up with a fix to this problem.  My battery issues seem pale in comparison to problems being reported by others.  Just to be sure that everything is working the way it should be working in your iPhone, here are two good Apple websites to read regarding battery life: http://tinyurl.com/lcdsfdhttp://tinyurl.com/3xyak4

I had no battery issues until the 5.0.1 update (iPhone 4s). I then had horrible battery life. Did a wipe/reset and everything is back to normal. Go figure.

For me the situation has improved slightly after the 5.0.1 update. It’s still not perfect, so I’m waiting for Apple’s next patch.

BTW, it’s funny how often people try to hijack this kind of thread for general support questions :)

My battery problems began with the 4S, I had no problems with the 4.  Immediately my battery was out of spec, wearing down in 5 hours or less. Upon the release of the 5.01, it got WORSE. I started losing about 30% per hour, my battery was dead after 3 or 31/2 hours.  Yes, I have tried every single technique ever written, at one point it wasnt even an iphone anymore – bluetooth off, location off, display turned down, no fetch, nothing. In desperation, i wrote an email to apple executive offices in December. They responded by having a tech contact me and had me download an app.  This app tracked everything that i did on the phone over a 3-4 day period.  i then uploaded the app results to apple and the engineers in Cupertino reviewed.  This process took 6 weeks.  They responded very coldly, very official – apple – legalese.  Personally, they were paranoid I would sue or something.  They refused to share any info with me from the engineers. They refused to discuss anything, except to say “the phone is functioning normally” – that is to say, yes, we have a significant battery problem but no we have no fix for you right now.  I reminded them of how the phone is out of spec, and they repeated the boilerplate response. it was like talking to a brick wall, a robot. There was no human-ness in their response, no effort at customer service whatsoever.  It was very sad. Apple’s offer: they would refund my money so i could go buy a smartphone from someone other than apple.  At no time did they say they were sorry for the inconvenience or admit to any problems, even when i reminded them that over 14,000 messages had been posted on their own support board. I asked instead for a letter so that when i go to the apple store due to the battery no longer taking a charge (i have to charge 3x a day) that i would not have to pay the 60 dollars or whatever they charge. Apple refused. They said i could have my money back and thats it. so cold, so unhuman, so completely opposed to any customer service standard anyone could expect.  I just hung up the phone, and hope that the next update to IOS will fix things.  Or by the time iphone5 comes out, the hardware or battery issue will be solved.  My phone remains being drained in three hours (no games, no streaming, nothing intensive – just twitter).  Terribly unhappy and i have a new outlook on the coldness and isolation and non human-ness of apple.
