∞ China Mobile wants App Store revenue

John Paczkowski:

Foremost, the iPhone is already killing it in China without China Mobile. And as much as Apple would like to put the iPhone on the world’s largest wireless carrier, it’s not going to do so unless it gets the terms it wants. And right now there’s some disagreement between the two companies over App Store revenue.

This should be interesting. Apple is notoriously tough in negotiations. I can’t see them giving up any kind of revenue.

Why should the carrier receive any App Store revenue? Last I checked, Apple was the owner/maintainer of the App Store.

Give up revenue? That’s a slippery slope that Apple won’t tread on.  If they give it up to them, they’ll end up forced to cave to the other carriers.

With that said, I’m surprised the demand wasn’t IP instead.

Never gonna happen. Not because of the $, but because of the principle. Never, ever, ever…

Exactly. Apple will never agree to terms like this.
China Mobile has nothing to do with the creation or upkeep of the AppStore, but wants to get some of the profits?
      Stupid, just stupid.

Why would they? Aside from from selling the phone and charging for the data, what aspect of the App Store, maintained, run and curated by Apple, is dependent on the carriers?
