∞ Batman: Arkham Asylum lands on Mac

Feral Interactive announced the release Thursday of Batman: Arkham Asylum for the Mac. It’s available for $39.99 either for download through the Mac App Store and other services, or as a boxed product.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is the award-winning stealth-based action game featuring the Dark Knight himself, trapped in Gotham’s home for the criminally insane by none other than the Joker. Batman squares off against Harley Quinn, Bane, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy and Scarecrow along with myriad henchmen and goons before he can escape.

The game was developed based on original story by Emmy award-winning writer Paul Dini, with voices including Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, who reprise their roles as the The Joker and Batman respectively.

System requirements call for a 2.0 GHz Intel Mac with 2GB RAM, 128MB graphics card and Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later. There are additional graphics requirements, so check Feral’s mini site for complete details.

As much as I want to support Mac gaming, when I get Arkham Asylum it’ll almost certainly be on the PS3.

If you want Arkham Asylum you can get it for £1 here in the UK via OnLive on the Mac, and you don’t even need the GFX card as they handle all that for you. Not sure on the US price but should be available there as well for a few dollars.

It’s a bit sobering, after all the growth the Mac has seen over the last couple years, to see that we’re still waiting 2 years for top tier games.

@tewha:disqus @humedini:disqus  You can get Arkham Asylum for PS3 for like $15 these days. OnLive is a degraded experience at best and unplayable at worst, at least at my house with Comcast. Maybe it works better for some, but for many it’s not a reasonable option.

From this publisher, sure. But that’s not always the case. TransGaming has made inroads to greatly reducing the time to market for many of its Mac releases, including same day releases in some cases. Check their Gametreemac.com Web site for details.

I’m not saying it’s perfect, but Feral’s development cycle for this game shouldn’t be taken as a blanket statement about the overall condition of the Mac game market.
