∞ The Politics of Songwriting – Part Five

Trooper’s Ra McGuire:

The three members of Green Day split songwriting royalties evenly despite the fact that, from what I can tell, Billy Joe Armstrong writes the lyrics and melodies for their songs.

Kurt Cobain, on the other hand, received sole songwriting credit for all but a couple of Nirvana’s songs (a co-write and a b-side written by the band’s drummer Dave Grohl).

BIlly Joe Armstrong ain’t very bright, when it comes to money from royalties or getting kicked off a first class flight because you can’t pull your pants up and you’re a piss drunk a-hole to the FA!  When you begin to believe your own hype, it’s the beginning of a fall.  I mean you didn’t see the members of KISS walking around with makeup and those platform boots when they weren’t promoting the band.  Heck, the whole makeup and wigs thing was a good idea because for decades no one would recognize them in public.  Now we have stars like Lady GaGa who are falling down stoned/drunk trying to be the most outrageous just for the attention!  Long gone are the real musicians and where is the talent?  It’s all exhibitionists!
