∞ Apple explains decision to start selling Final Cut Studio again

Earlier today, Mac Rumors noted that Apple was once again selling Final Cut Studio to people that called the company’s sales line. Apple tonight, explained what’s going on.

“As we’ve done before with many end-of-life software products, we have a limited quantity of Final Cut Studio still available through Apple telesales to customers who need them for ongoing projects,” an Apple spokesperson told The Loop.

Apple released Final Cut Pro X in late June, replacing the $999 Final Cut Studio.

Jim, was there any word on if they were still selling the software at upgrade pricing to Legacy FCS 1&2 users?

      Sorry, I don’t know.

“limited quantity”? It is software. You don’t have limits on the number of ones and zeros.

It’s definitely limited if it comes in a box! That was the whole point of “Final Cut Pro X”.

Funny, that never happened with ANY of the previous versions of Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro.

Maybe because then, the newer versions could open old projects and continued to add professional features as opposed to taking them away.

This just smacks of a bad quip, to try and demean their CYA move because the launch of iMovie Pro wasn’t as well received by the now very large professional FCP community as some nitwit in Cuppertino thought it would be.

Sounds a little like HP – except for the lack of firesale prices and lack of direction, and lack of a clue… Clearly there is demand and Apple will not lose money but the company does want to move it’s software distribution the the AppStore so this is a minor hiccup.

Apple clearing out inventory as usual & putting buttons on “cry-babies” lips! Killing 2 birds with a stone is Apple’s specialty!

Apple needs to make the upgrade to 7 from 6 available for the previous affordable price. This is part of the “support” understanding.
