If I was a handset manufacturer, I’d immediately start thinking of alternatives to Android. Even if this was a patent thing, I’d bet Google’s new line of phones will get special treatment in the Android world, early OS releases, special code tailored to their hardware, etc. I realize the Nexus was like that, but I’ve met far more people with Motorola Android devices than I have the Nexus. (pretty easy as that number is zero)

What a waste. American companies have to spend billions, plus untold legal fees, on pointless posturing and litigation instead of on innovation.

Holy Crepe! This is going to change things. In case of Motorola not for the better I believe.

Android cannot be producing the revenues that Google expects, else they would have cut only a patent license deal.

Remember all those science fiction movies where we saw dozens of familiar brands still dotting the landscape? How many of those brands disappear into a merger or acquisition every year?
