∞ Apple will not hold iPhone 5 event on Sept. 7

Reports began to surface yesterday that Apple would hold a special event on September 7 to launch the new iPhone, but that’s not happening.

[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]According to my sources, Apple will not have an event or launch the next iPhone on September 7. It’s hard to say how that specific date was chosen by the sites that started the rumor, other than it fits into the timeline of previous Apple events.

Typically Apple uses its September event to launch new iPods for the Christmas shopping season, but it is widely expected that the company will use this year’s event to launch a new iPhone.

Speculation seems split on whether the device will be a small upgrade of the iPhone 4 or a major redesign with many new features.

Wow, I’m still keeping hope of an August announcement just in case :/

  • according to my sources, the new iPhone will launch September 14th. You have no idea who my sources are, but I’m on the internet, so just trust me.

Luckily we know a lot more about the veracity of Jim’s sources compared to yours 😉

This made me laugh! I couldn’t agree more!

I think my iPhone 3GS has picked up vibes that its days are numbered. First I was going to upgrade to a 4 on Verizon in February. Then I decided to wait until June (under the assumption that there would be a summer launch of the next model). Then I switched back to AT&T and resumed using my 3GS as a phone, and planned to upgrade in what seemed like August. Then September. Now possibly October, according to some.

I think I’ve upset it, dragging it out this long. My ringer mute switch has gotten really sensitive…I can feel the “ringer off” and “ringer on” vibrations all the time in my pants pocket. At least, I say it’s my phone and that’s the story I’m sticking with.

    • That’s a pretty common issue with 3GS’s, I was able to get mine replaced at the Genius Bar out of warranty, either I got lucky or they’ll replace 3GS’s for the ringer issue more readily.

        • I have my 3GS for a few years, and I dont have any problems with ringer switch. Everything works perfectly fine ond latest iOS.

  • Can we get a couple more ads around the post? I can only count 7 😉

    • Peter Cohen

When you start paying for the content directly, you can start criticizing the location of the ads. 😉

    • Yeah, that “Advertise Here” Gray box is distracting.

By the way, I hear that gray box is there because the beard pulled his ads in protest of the debunking of the September 7th rumor it planted with Enderle.

    • It must be terrible being the last person on Earth to hear about AdBlock.

Having seen many rumor responses from Jim (and Gruber) in the past, it is obvious that someone such as Forstall or Schiller is spoon-feeding enough limited information to quash the rumors before they gain too much traction. I don’t necessarily think Jim is being given any more detailed info that this.

Let’s see. The iPhone4 is great but the competitions are getting fierce in hardware realm; iPad 2 is still dominant yet vulnerable for the same reasons. Oh, I forgot the newly ordained iCloud that could send other portals scrambling for re-write. So here are my 2-cents: Apple will introduce iCloud along with the new iPod Touch 3G, new iPad 2S with Retina display as a premium device with no change in cpu, and…the new iPhone with dual core A5. Call the new phone whatever you’d like. But the foremost important thing is the new iOS 5 with tight integration to iCloud and AppStore. There you have it!

    • How are the iPhone or iPad vulnerable? How is the competition delivering anything but trash-talk?

    • Where are you getting your information? iPod touch 3G came out 2 years ago, we have the iPod touch 4G currently. We are awaiting the iPod touch 5th gen. Also, I have never, EVER, heard anyone say that the next iPad will be called iPad 2S (but I have heard of iPhone 4S). Also Apple introduced iCloud at WWDC (June, remember?). Why would they introduce iCloud again?

The iPod Touch is wifi only. Tdtran 1025 is not talking generations  but ‘3G’ iPod Touch.

It would be so much simpler if everyone just waited for Apple’s [or HPs, or Microsoft’s, or …’s] announcements. (Sadly, it’s not going to happen.)

Why don’t we wait? It’s human nature. Back when the introduction of new cars in September was early anticipated, rumors of the shape of a fin or grill sent people into spasms.

      Different product, same anticipation.

  • Why isn’t this post under the iPod category. Why does everyone forget the iPod?!

    • Emma

I know right? I’ve been waiting for the new iPod for 3 months already.I hope they release it soon!

All apple is doing by not putting out the iphone5 is pushing people to buy an android phone such as the samsungs2.

    • Player_16

‘Apple…pushing people to buy an Android phone – Samsung’? No, you’re trolling and I’ve responded… er fed.

      Google wishes.

But folks that want an iphone will wait for the iphone.

  • i just wish they would hurry up already..
