∞ QNAP updates NAS software with Lion support

QNAP Systems on Monday announced the release of version 3.5 of its Network Attached Storage (NAS) management software for its Turbo NAS series. The new release makes QNAP Turbo NAS devices compatible with OS X Lion. The firmware update is available for download from QNAP’s Web site.

QNAP makes a range of NAS devices in various capacities and with various capabilities for home users, small businesses and enterprises looking to storage data on the network. The devices are Time Machine-compatible.

Also new to this release is support for LDAP, a protocol used for managing directory information services; anti-virus scanning support; RADIUS server; Windows Live Messenger notification and other enhancements.

The incompatibility of existing NAS hardware was the biggest surprise that I had in upgrading to Lion. It just wasn’t something that I thought would be an issue. Luckily, the second beta for my ReadyNAS fixed all of the AFP issues.

I wish this were true, I have the TS-219P Turbo NAS which on the download page shows the last firmware update was July 20th. Time Machine is still broken:

    This from the QNAP site:

    Hi everyone,
If you have upgraded to Mac OS X Lion and cannot connect to the QNAP NAS, please upgrade to the latest v3.4.4 Build0718 official firmware.
    Download Center

Currently Time Machine backup is not yet supported under OS X Lion. We’re currently working on the solution and will release it with the v3.5.0 official firmware in a few weeks.
