∞ T-Pain sues Antares Auto-Tune

AIR Users Blog:

In an attempt to promote his new venture, this PR stunt is being done in the hope of distancing his name from the brand that helped make the T-Pain effect so famous. He is asking for $1 million in damages and also for them to stop using his name and image in any marketing. I suppose a simple email wouldn’t sufficed for T-Pain?

I was hoping he would stop making music, but apparently he’s just going with another company called Izotope.

I think Cher should sue him for copying her act

I think anyone who uses auto-tune deserves whatever they get.  It DESTROYS what some people already call “music”.  I turn it off as soon as I hear that first “auto-tuned” vocal note.  Its horrendous.

It’s been used for decades, but in a subtle, fix the errors, kinda way. Almost all recording artists have used it at one time or another. The modern use where it becomes the performance is truly obnoxious. It’s just super ironic that this guy sues the company that gave him a career…!  Go figure eh?

The only acceptable use of auto tune was in “The Fifth Element”.

Couldn’t agree more. Fixing small errors and things like that have been around for a long time and is acceptable.

A man can dream, right Jim?

Justifiable aesthetic snobbery aside, there are lots of Antares Autotune plug-in users but only one T-Pain.  And they either have a contract securing the right to use his name/image/voice in their marketing, or they don’t.

Auto-tune has been in use for YEARS in the record industry, its only recently when people who hadn’t read the instructions simply turned the buttons to “max” and created possibly the worst music in history.

Auto-Tune, used judiciously, is a powerful studio tool and should not be blamed for either T-Pain or Rebecca Black.
