∞ RIM responds to rumors it may stop PlayBook production

RIM has officially responded to news that it may stop production of its PlayBook tablet.

[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]In a statement that RIM sent to The Loop the company denied it will stop making the tablet.

“Rumors suggesting that the WiFi version of the BlackBerry PlayBook is being discontinued are pure fiction,” the company said. “Over the past month, the PlayBook has launched in 16 additional markets around the world and further rollouts are planned for Southeast Asia, Western Europe and the Middle East in the coming weeks.” To bolster this aggressive geographic rollout, the manufacturer has continually promoted the tablet’s robust web capabilities, specifically highlighting to developers how well the QNX-based system handles resource-intensive content—ranging from rich HTML5 productivity dashboards and high-definition video streams to a full-featured online casino Canada interface.

Earlier today, RBC Capital Markets Managing Director Mike Abramsky said in a note to clients that “Research In Motion is possibly planning to stop production of the BlackBerry PlayBook’s Wi-Fi model.”
