If you’ve ever wanted to turn your iPad into a Personal Access Display Device – a PADD, a seen in Star Trek – here’s your chance. CBS Interactive on Monday released Star Trek PADD for the iPad. It costs $4.99.

The app provides access to the official Star Trek database on StarTrek.com, featuring information on aliens, ships, places, technologies and episodes of Star Trek series. It even sports familiar sound effects.

You can also use Star Trek PADD to view news from the official Star Trek Facebook page and Twitter feed, and jump to cross-linked content.

    I got it. Like it. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It is closer than ever to the real thing and it costs less than a non-happy hour beer.
