∞ Video: Using an Audio-Technica USB mic with an iPad

As many of you already know, I have a nice collection of AKG mics that I use to record my guitar amps, drums and vocals in my studio. However, I also have one of these Audio-Technica USB mics that sounds great doing voice recordings. It’s an interesting video to watch if you want to record into your iPad.

    Jim,

Have you had any experience playing around with connecting an apogee one or even the new duet into an iPad with any success? I’d imagine one would probably need to use a dedicated power supply with the audio interfaces, but would love to think of the recording clarity from apogee’s great pres and a/d conversion.

Apogee has the JAM, which is made for the iPad. Great device, I love it.

Yeah, I saw that (and of course their Mic project coming soon). But I would love to just have one device (like the duet 2) that could play nice with both the iPad and it’s intended MBP setup. Didn’t know if you had any trials playing around with it yet.

    Hi Jim,

Great article. How’s the quality of the AT2020 with the iPad? I’ve tried the Samson go USB with it and while the vocal quality was fine, there was way too much hiss in the back-even in a very quiet environment.

Does the 2020 have any adjustable level or perhaps it’s of better quality so the hiss will be reduced?

    Thanks,
    Charles

I haven’t tried this mic with the iPad yet, but I have used it with the Mac and it’s got great sound quality.
