∞ Will publishers go with OnSwipe instead of native apps?

In a nutshell, Co-Founder and CEO Jason Baptiste’s pitch to publishers is that while apps are good for some things — games, specific actions such as listening to music, etc. — for content-related purposes they aren’t ideal, for either the publisher or the user. As Baptiste puts it in one of the slides he shows to investors and partners, “apps are bull***.” To take just one example, most apps don’t take advantage of the web by using links or interactivity as much as they could, because the content is locked inside an app.

The OnSwipe that I’ve seen doesn’t beat some of the better apps that have been built.

The OnSwipe that I’ve seen doesn’t even beat a standard, properly formatted web page. It behaves worse actually. Reminds me of years ago when DHTML was the thing and we got to suffer through crap flying here and there just because it could, never mind whether it should. Or the old sites that added title bars and other chrome to look more like a desktop app. Never seen an OnSwipe installation that did anything but obscure content.

The guy is asking for money, so I suppose his talking bullshit is understandable through that lens.

This is somebody who wants to dip his hand in the honey pot, by creating an intermediary where none is needed.
    Good luck with that.

“apps are bull****.”???? Nice sort of presentation to investors. Really establishes a high level of sophistication and credibility.

A browser is an app. These people are retards. It’s the same promises Java has been making for years. These “web is the new apps” people are building the next generation of BREW games on feature phones.

    End of unfocused rant.
