∞ Apple releases iWork for iPhone and iPod touch

Apple on Tuesday announced the release of iWork for the iPhone and iPod touch. A free update for iWork for iPad customers, the redesigned Keynote, Pages and Numbers apps are priced at $9.99 each from the App Store.

[ad#Google Adsense 300x250 in story]iWork started out for the Mac, but after the iPad took hold Apple engineered versions of the individual applications to work on the popular tablet device. Now the company has updated the apps and scaled them to work on even smaller iOS devices.

Keynote, Pages and Numbers import and export documents from their Mac equivalents, as well as from Microsoft Office applications. Users can print from their iPhone or iPod touch using AirPrint technology, and the apps include Apple-designed themes and templates.

iWork apps have been updated with improved document management support, now with thumbnail images that help you find your files quickly, then organize and group them into folders using gestures. You can also share documents from the Tools button in the toolbar. A “Smart Zoom” feature will automatically zoon in to follow the cursor while you’re editing, and them zooms back out when you’re finished.

I’m still waiting to be able to use the same document instead of importing and exporting.  I’m guessing/hoping the upcoming iCloud service will solve that issue.  Until then, I’m sticking with Documents to Go and DropBox.

I dare say you’re right but I think it we will always be using a local version. You have the option of saving and overwriting the old version(saved to iDisk) with the one you have currently on your device which works nicely.

A more elegant solution would have been welcome but I don’t think we will see that now in terms of iCloud sync or whatever to do with iWork. Why release new software a week before WWDC instead of at WWDC or did they have to go through their own app store approval process???
