∞ Report: Apple testing iPhone on T-Mobile

Apple is reportedly testing its iPhone to work on T-Mobile’s network.

[ad#Google Adsense 300x250 in story]According to a BGR.com report on Wednesday, Apple is testing a new prototype iPhone specifically designed for T-Mobile. The iPhone has an internal model number of N94, which fails in line with the N90 and N92 models released for AT&T and Verizon, respectively.

The report also notes that the phone is running a test version of iOS and has internal Apple test apps installed.

In March, AT&T said it had acquired T-Mobile for $39 billion. The company said its customer and T-Mobile customers will see improved service and voice quality because of the deal, due to additional spectrum and increased tower density.

The real reason Sprint is buying T-Mobile comes out!

I hope so! If the next iPhone isnt coming out until September or so then this would be a great ‘pop’ in sales in an otherwise dull quarter. My guess is it comes to Sprint and T-Mobile at the same time, probably in May.

Cringely claims that AT&T is acquiring T-Mobile more for its wi-fi network, preceding some sort of effort that supplements cell tower coverage.

At least out west here, AT&T won many of T-Mobile’s former WiFi contracts a couple years ago. They are and have been AT&T hotspots (albeit ones that T-Mo has in many cases negotiated roaming privileges for).

So for me, Cringely’s claims are met with “What WiFi network?”

I assume you mean in the US? I suggest country-specific posts are identified as such in the RSS feed header. In UK iPhone has been on T Mobile for some time.
