Apple will delay the launch of the iPad 2 in Japan following the enormous earthquake, tsunami and ensuing devastation of last week, Reuters has learned.

[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]Apple originally planned to release the iPad 2 in Japan and 25 other countries on March 25, 2011, following its rollout last Friday in the United States.

The rollout still is on track for other countries, but Apple spokesperson Natalie Kerris confirmed to Reuters that Japan’s launch would be delayed “while the country and [Apple’s] teams focus on recovering from the recent disaster.” She did not offer a rescheduled date.

Analysts have expressed concerns over how Japan’s electronics manufacturing capabilities may be disrupted following the disaster; Kerris told Reuters that the delay had nothing to do with supply shortages.
