∞ Air Display for Mac turns computer into monitor

Avatron Software on Tuesday announced the release of Air Display for Mac, which turns your Mac into a secondary wireless monitor for another Mac or a PC. The software is available through the Mac App Store and costs $19.99.

[ad#Google Adsense 300x250 in story]Avatron’s original Air Display was launched in May 2010. The software turns your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch into a wireless monitor for your computer. Avatron Software CEO David Howell says that it was the success of that product that led them to do a Mac port of the application. “As our users have grown accustomed to the productivity advantages of using a second monitor, we’ve been inundated with requests for a Mac port of Air Display.”

Air Display for Mac operates in either full-screen or windowed modes, and can connect over Ethernet in addition to Wi-Fi, which makes it operate much faster (an operation not possible with iOS devices, which lack Ethernet connectivity).

The software uses a “dynamic compression algorithm” for maximum responsiveness, according to the developer. Windows will automatically reposition when reconnecting and disconnecting a Mac being used with Air Display.

System requirements call for Mac OS X 10.6 or later.

You can even use touch input on the iPad/iPhone as your mouse. Pretty awesome.

    ScreenRecycler does that too.

I prefer using DisPlay Port with my iPad and my MacBook Air. Gives me more screen space than using my MacBook Pro, which I never carry anymore.

I have been turned off by Avatron because of its price gouging ways.

What about some software that lets us “AirPlay” from iOS devices onto Macs (not just Apple TVs)?

    I’d pay for that!

    Cheers,
    Ashley.
