∞ Picture: Apple puts finishing touches on iPad 2 event

It looks like Apple is pretty much ready for the crowd of reporters that will descend on San Francisco this Wednesday for the iPad 2 event.

[ad#Google Adsense 300x250 in story]The Loop’s Peter Cohen is in San Francisco for the Game Developers Conference and will be attending the iPad event. Peter took this shot of workers putting the finishing touches on the Yerba Buena Center, where the iPad event will be held.

Specs of the iPad 2 are a tightly guarded secret, it is widely thought the device will feature a front-facing camera with FaceTime video support and be thinner than its predecessor.

Apple announced the event last Wednesday.

how about some anti glare on that thinner model. maybe some back lighting and a decent light sensor. make the thing usable outside

The interesting thing is that many of the developers I talked with and overheard today were unaware that Apple was planning an event for this week, so the news that the iPad 2 may be introduced took them by surprise.

It’ll be interesting to gauge GDC attendee reaction after Wednesday, as iOS is so integral to the success of this market now. And there are a ton of Apple products in peoples’ hands – phones, iPads and MacBooks of all shapes and sizes are all over the place, much more than last year.

I’m looking forward to your report(s) on this matter.

We’ve discussed my dilemma of having to choose between a 11″ MBA and an iPad recently.
One of the reasons I’m leaning towards saving for an iPad right now is the amount of gaming I do on the iPhone 4.
Simply due to its screen size the iPad would be a better gaming device for me and boy have the games become great: Real Racing 2, NOVA 1&2, Galaxy on Fire 2, Lego Harry Potter, Robokill, Hero of Sparta 1&2.

All of them sport great graphics at a great resolution. This isn’t causal gaming anymore.
I’m really looking forward to the 2nd generation iPad, I wonder what Apple has in stock.

P.S.: Could you do me a favour? Give the game publisher who’s got the rights to the Star Trek gaming franchise right now an encouraging kick in the nads and tell them to port Starfleet Academy to iOS.
This game would be utterly perfect for a device like the (i)PADD.
I think it’s Cryptic Studios right now ;)
