∞ iPad 2 could be available almost immediately

Apple will hold its iPad 2 event this week in San Francisco, Calif. and according to a new report the company may have almost immediate availability of the device.

[ad#Google Adsense 300x250 in story]Recent reports suggested the iPad 2, along with the iPhone 5, would be delayed this year. The Loop was able to independently confirm those rumors were false and that both products were on schedule.

However, as it turns out, Apple may be a bit ahead of schedule with the iPad 2. AppleInsider reports that customers could have the iPad 2 shortly after this week’s event.

Citing “people familiar with the matter,” AppleInsider says that “Apple is preparing several of its operating segments to perform functions during the second half of next week that are representative of nothing short of a large scale, consumer-oriented product roll out (not just an announcement).”

If that’s the case, the iPad 2 could be available on the day it’s announced or shortly thereafter.

I wonder if that will be worldwide or just in the US/UK?

    This wouldn’t be surprising.
I always got the feeling that Jobs/Cook take pleasure in saying things like

… aaand it’s going to be available, today.

It would be — once again — a testament to their “Supply Chain Fu”, which Apple has to thank its COO for.

Should this happen, I wouldn’t begrudge Cook/Jobs/Schiller/whoever to take a well measured jab at the competition; preferably using quotes from Jim’s “RIM needs to shut up and ship” article.
