∞ Report: Apple is not developing a smaller iPhone

Contrary to recent reports, Apple is not developing a smaller iPhone. That’s the word tonight.

[ad#Google Adsense 300×250 in story]Apple engineers are too busy finishing up the successor to the iPhone 4 to be working on a smaller so-called iPhone nano, according to The New York Times.

Citing confidential sources that have been “briefed on Apple’s plans,” the report suggests Apple will not be releasing a smaller iPhone any time soon. The smaller iPhone is not in development “in part because a smaller device would not necessarily be much cheaper to manufacture and because it would be more difficult to operate.”

Recent reports suggest that one iPhone version is smaller and cheaper than today’s iPhone, while another sports the ability to use the iPhone on multiple wireless networks around the globe.

Yeah, I think so. I strongly disbelieve Apple will be making a cheaper iPhone that doesn’t do anything better except have a better price for the same reason they were dissing notebooks saying they were “just cheap computers” that have no reason for being.

but, in the other sides, I do hope Apple would luanched a cheap iphone. If so, I could buy one also. lol. ^.^ Indeed, I’m a movie lover, so I get most of the movies on my iPhone through ifunia iphone converter. I think other will do the same once they try it and realize it is the perfect phone:-)

There’s cheaper and then there’s cheaper.

Selecting parts just because they have a lower cost is cheap in a bad way.

Keeping something that works that is lower end and thanks to lowering part costs is less pricey, there’s nothing wrong with that. Fact is, not everyone that might get an iphone is a huge power user that cares to have their whole music library, tons of video or apps on their phone. They might just want to make calls and texts, snap a few photos here and there, have a couple of apps etc. They don’t really need more than 8gb. Heck 4gb might even work for them.

Apple won’t do the former, but they might do the latter.

  • There’d be little advantage to having a lower-cost iPhone if voice and data plan rates remain as high as they are. That’s the true cost of any smartphone.

The truth may be that Apple is going to continue to have an 8gb model in 3g or iphone4 form even when other models double over again in storage. As part costs go down, so could the price of that model. Even to the point of making it as little as $200 full price. ATT etc could offer it for free to those who are ‘light’ users. Or even perhaps allow folks to buy one full price and go pay as you go at least for the voice side of things.

The possibilities are endless and it doesn’t require making a watch phone to play Inspector Gadget

    • Exactly – you can buy the iPhone 3GS for $49. You can’t expect to get cheaper than that.

  • Have any clue or Real image out there?

This is a hot topic these days, personally, i dont think will develop a small and cheaper iPhone, unless its strategy has been changed.

Another thing, the most important thing for Apple i think is that it is time to release a new & revolutionary product, or its iPhone series devices will decrease in world market. Other android phone manufature like Samsuing has closed it right now.

I got a iPhone 4s years ago, very great for watching movies and surfing online, but it seems that many of video files like avi, wmv, flv, etc, cant be put into, i must get a third-party tool (wmv mp4 converter for mac) to convert them before syncing them onto iPhone. Although the conversion takes my time, it works for at last.
