∞ Report: Mac OS X Lion-compatible Final Pro updates coming in March

Users of Apple’s professional filmmaking software, Final Cut Pro, may be in for a new version in the next couple of months, according to a new report on Monday.

[ad#Google Adsense 300x250 in story]Citing reports from HardMac, AppleInsider on Monday said Final Cut Pro could be updated in March or April of 2011. Perhaps some disappointing news for the true pro users, is that the updates may not bring high-end features those users would hope for.

There are reportedly two versions of the software currently in testing, one for Snow Leopard and the other for Mac OS X Lion. As with all new software, some features of Final Cut Pro will only work with the newer Mac OS X Lion.

That may be a bit difficult for Apple to pull off since Lion isn’t expected until the summer. If the report is true Apple would basically tout new features of Final Cut Pro without the ability for customers to use them for a few months.

AppleInsider last year said Apple was going to make Final Cut Pro a more prosumer friendly application.

    IMHO
Well you can pretty much ink in the dates for the NAB Show April 9 – 14, 2011, and you can ignore AppleInsider for their track record. So imagine a bunch of Pro features in Lion that bring the Studio package tighter together, and a different marketing of Final Cut Express – as the Pro iMovie.

Especially if they are citing HardMac as a source. That site is on par with Shaw Wu for being correct about things Apple.

Yes it is likely that they are about to release updates and yes they are probably already testing updates for when Lion releases. But the whole “disappointing to users” stuff is likely way off as they probably have no clue what new features there could be. Maybe there isn’t anything new but it is trimmed up to work better, which is still a huge plus for us professionals that rely on the software every day (that said, if they brought in the rest of the missing Shake features I wouldn’t mind one bit) .
